The LP-D mechanical seal is a double-end, multi-spring, balanced cartridge seal for Sulzer A pumps. It operates in either shaft rotation direction and provides reliable sealing for demanding pump applications.
The seal uses a stationary structure with clamp-type torque transmission. In addition, the compensation components are integrated into the flange. Elastomers separate the springs from the process medium. As a result, the springs are less likely to clog or stick when the pump handles pulp, wastewater, or other challenging fluids. Multiple springs also distribute the closing force evenly across the seal faces.
On the barrier fluid side, the secondary seal adds another sealing stage. Therefore, it helps control leakage from both the process medium and barrier fluid. The elastomer-supported shaft sleeve also prevents axial movement. At the same time, it protects the shaft from direct contact with the sealing components.
The seal faces sit close to the rotor. This arrangement improves cooling and lubrication around the sealing surfaces. Furthermore, the LP-D features a special structure for back-pressure operation. Internal flow channels in the flange help distribute cooling fluid across the seal faces. Consequently, the seal can maintain stable operation under demanding conditions.
The LP-D mechanical seal is particularly suitable for pulp pumps and wastewater pumps. It also serves applications in the pulp and paper, power generation, and wastewater treatment industries. As a replacement solution, the LP-D can replace EagleBurgmann LP-D mechanical seals used on Sulzer A pumps.
